Bryan Hullihen
spent the majority of his free time while living at Born Anew either at 12-step
meetings or surfing on Palm Beach Island. Mr. Hullihen talks about that time of
his life with such warm regard and recalls the simplicity of working a humble
job, going to 12-step meetings, and surfing in one of the nicest places in the
country as his primary focuses. Bryan got a job working for an extremely
wealthy woman who lived on Palm Beach Island about a half-mile from Donald
Trump's Resort/house. This particular woman owned a commercial real estate
business and hired Bryan initially to simply do a couple odds and ends but
ended up hiring him on full-time after a single week. She knew Bryan was an
alcoholic in recovery and since she had a close relative that suffered from addiction,
she wanted to help Bryan however she could. Bryan was extremely grateful for
this opportunity because it allowed him to focus on recovery from his
alcoholism while feeling valued by someone as successful and loving as this
woman. It was during this time of Bryan Hullihen's life that he learned the value of humility and the importance of
gratitude. You see Bryan still did not own a vehicle and had to ride his
bicycle each day a couple miles from an extremely rough part of Palm Beach
County (West Palm Beach) over the bridge to Palm Beach Island where some
of the wealthiest people in the world lived. For months Bryan would return home
from Palm Beach Island to Born Anew and would experience an extreme amount of
gratitude for where he lived. Where he lived was not a nice place by any
stretch of the imagination, but each day Bryan would humbly ride his bike to
work and gratefully return home to a place that was teaching him how to recover
from alcoholism. That is why Bryan was there and he knew it. Recovering from
what he learned to be a mental disorder (Alcoholism) was the reason Bryan was
at Born Anew and the more recovery he found the more happiness he experienced.
While the majority of Bryan's childhood friends spent that year finishing their
first year of college he spent it learning how to recover from alcoholism and
the importance of humility and gratitude and achieving success.
